Development Period: February – May, 2024

Team Size: 12

Role: Product Owner, Level Designer, Narrative Designer

As the product owner on this project, I had to touch on many different elements of the game during its development. I facilitated that by taking a hands-on approach to the role, checking in with each discipline during our weekly meetings and providing what was needed to support each area. As a result, my fingerprints can be found all over the finished product; From helping organize the level structure logistically, to creating some of said levels in engine, to concepting elements like the game’s iconic crayon-box shotgun.

This room layout was a Unity scene I crafted after receiving modular assets from the environment artist.

The strongest outcome from my hands-on approach as product owner is the sense of cohesion between the games aesthetic and gameplay elements. Thorough documentation and constant communication made the overall intent of the game clear to the other team members, while also giving the artists and designers ample room to iterate concepts with their own stylistic twists, all done with clear confidence that it would match the vision of the final game.

This room, juxtaposing a serious and surreal space with a floating rubber duck, was the result of the team’s shared vision for a visual gag being implemented by me in engine.

The sweet, strange, silly, and sometimes spooky world of Cthulhu And Me is the result of communicating a clear and strong creative vision to the talented developers on my team, giving them the space to create while also providing the guidance needed to hold it together, giving it an endearing charm that’s constantly present in the final product.
